10 Mar 2025
Congratulations to UCC MSc Biotechnology students, Jessica Retief and Niamh McGrath, recipients of the prestigious Regeneron College Awards, a real celebration of remarkable student achievements.

Congratulations from the MSc Biotechnology programme and the School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, UCC to our 2024/2025 MSc Biotechnology students, Jessica Retief and Niamh Mc Grath, who were both awarded Regeneron College Awards 2025.

We are delighted that both Niamh and Jessica have now secured a full-time 6 month internship at Regeneron in Limerick.

Now in its seventh year, the Regeneron College Awards in partnership with University College Cork (UCC) and other colleges, plays a key role in securing top talent for Regeneron’s internship program, with a strong focus on converting interns to full-time employees, post-graduation. Interns are welcomed into several departments as part of Regeneron’s continued investment in future biotech leaders.

Dr. Ken Nally, Director, MSc Biotechnology, UCC, highlighted the significance of the program, stating, “The Regeneron College Awards programme is a really important annual event as it provides a platform to recognise and celebrate the excellence and achievements of outstanding students from our MSc Biotechnology programme at UCC and students from other programmes in other colleges. Regeneron are to be congratulated on their continued commitment to fostering talent and developing future innovators for the biopharmaceutical industry in Ireland.”

Niall O'Leary, Senior Vice President and Site Lead in Raheen, emphasised the importance of working with third level institutions “At Regeneron, we value the opportunity to collaborate with universities in our catchment area to support emerging talent. These awards recognise excellence and give students practical industry exposure, helping bridge the gap between academia and the workplace. Strong partnerships between academia and industry are fundamental in driving innovation and shaping the future of science.”

Congratulations to both Jessica and Niamh on this outstanding achievement!
