Aideen McCabe, PhD Student at the School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, and overall winner of the 2024 Irish Universities Association Three Minute Thesis National Final!

Congratulations to Aideen McCabe, PhD student at the School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, who won the 2024 Irish Universities Association Three Minute Thesis National Final!

Aideen presented her research on early detection methods for ovarian cancer, which impressed the judges but also highlighted her innovative research on a multiomic approach to assess the expression and regulation of long non-coding RNAs. Her work, supervised by Dr. Kellie Dean, Senior Lecturer at the School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, is paving the way for advancements in ovarian cancer detection.

Competing for the national prize were eight PhD Researchers, each the winner in their individual university competitions held throughout the year. The Three Minute Thesis concept was originally developed by the University of Queensland and has become an event that’s replicated around the globe. The competition supports graduate research students in their development as confident research communicators.

This year marks the second year the IUA hosts the competition in Ireland to celebrate the achievements and talent of Irish university PhD researchers.

Congratulations from all at the School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Aideen! We are immensely proud of your incredible achievement!
