Representative democracy is undergoing a deep crisis of legitimacy. Climate assemblies, participatory budgeting, and civic tech are examples of democratic innovations that connect the voices of everyday people to decision-makers. On the one hand, these participatory and deliberative democracy (PDD) processes are celebrated for their potential in addressing political distrust and polarisation by deepening public engagement. On the other hand, they are accused of being cosmetic solutions to deep-seated problems that continue to exclude already disempowered groups (along socioeconomic, gender, racial, physical, and mental ability lines).

What is the MSocSc Voluntary & Community Sector Management?

The MSocSc Voluntary and Community Sector Management is an interdisciplinary, part-time postgraduate degree specifically designed for those wishing to develop or advance their career in the voluntary and/or community sector. It is suitable both for those already working in the sector and those who work allied to it - for example, people working in the public sector who work closely with the community or voluntary sector.

“Te Rodel Nevo Drom” (We are looking for A New Way), the first Health Strategy for Roma in Cork and Kerry was launched on May 28^th,in Tralee International Resource Centre (TIRC) by Priscilla Lynch, Head of Primary Care HSE. Dr Patricia Kennedy, School of Applied Social Studies, UCC who researched and wrote the strategy with two Roma peer researchers (‘experts by experience’) Marcela Venzel and Isac Ianko.
