Neuropathology grant awarded to Dr. Eric Downer and Dr. Yvonne Nolan

Dr. Eric Downer, in collaboration with Dr. Yvonne Nolan, Dept. Anatomy and Neuroscience, have been awarded a British Neuropathological Society (BNS) Grant to characterize the demyelinating activity associated with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in human post-mortem brain tissue.

The identification of mechanisms regulating demyelination and neurodegeneration in both MS lesions and normal appearing white matter is needed to understand new pathways contributing to disease pathogenesis. Overall this will inform novel therapeutic approaches for the disease. The funding provided by the Society will support the MD research of Dr. Siew-Mei Yap.
