First Five MSc Graduates in Human Anatomy are Conferred
14 Nov 2018Congratulations to the first graduates of the new MSc in Human Anatomy who were conferred with their Master Degrees in UCC last friday. This first taught MSc in Human Anatomy in the Republic of Ireland was developed by Dr Siobhain O'Mahony and Dr Joy Balta, Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience, UCC.

Exciting New BSc Degree in Medical and Health Sciences
12 Nov 2018The Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience is delighted to welcome the first class of Medical and Health Science students to UCC. This innovative and exciting new degree programme was conceived and developed by a team led by Professor Aideen Sullivan, Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience.
At an event held recently in the Western Gateway building, Professor Aideen Sullivan (Programme Director) and Professor Ken O' Halloran (Head of Department of Physiology), welcomed the first BSc Medical and Health Sciences class to meet with staff from the School of Medicine, School of Public Health, School of Biochemistry & Cell Biology and School of Microbiology at a lunchtime buffet 'Meet and Greet'.

Sofia Cussotto – Psychotropics and the Chamber of Secrets … our gut!
08 Nov 2018Congratulations to Ms Sofia Cussotto, finalist in 'Research Fest 2018', the annual PhD researcher pitch competition which is part of 'Inspirefest', Silicon Republic’s two day international festival of technology, science, design and the arts, which was held this year in the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre, Dublin on the 21st and 22nd June 2018. Sofia’s pitch looked at how psychotropic medication is used to manage mental disorders.

A Brazilian citizen, Dr. Levone's PhD studies were funded by the Science without Borders programme of the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq).

Department holds Biennial Thanksgiving Service
28 Feb 2018The Department of Anatomy & Neuroscience hosted its fourth Thanksgiving Service in memory of the people who donated their bodies for medical research. An important date in the Calender of the College of Medicine & Health at UCC, the Thanksgiving Service was held in the Honan Chapel UCC on Monday February 19th 2018. The service is a non-denominational celebration of the lives of all donors and especially of those donors who were part of the donation programme in the past two years.

Neuroscience outreach to RDS Young Scientist Competition
23 Jan 2018The pupils from Scoil Naomh Fionan, Nohoval, Co. Cork embarked on an exciting journey of discovery into the world of gut bacteria. Along with Scientist and lecturer Dr. Siobhain O’Mahony they carried out a set of experiments investigating the impact of different food types on concentration levels in the classroom.

Advanced Anatomical Skills 2017-2018 – Another successful year!
22 Jan 2018In 2013, the Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience launched its AN3000 – Advanced Anatomical Skills module to complement its anatomy teaching to medical students. The course, offered as a student-selected module, allows students to appreciate Anatomy in a non-pressurised manner and is ideal for students with an interest in surgery, radiology or other anatomically-oriented disciplines of medicine.
