Congratulations to Prof John F Cryan who has been named Highly Cited Researcher according to the Highly Cited Researchers 2019 list from the Web of Science Group, released recently. This list recognises researchers whose citation records position them in the very highest strata of research influence and impact and includes 23 Nobel laureates.

Congratulations to the medical students who received Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience awards from Prof John Cryan and Dr Kathy Quane at the School of Medicine awards Ceremony which took place in Brookfield Health Sciences Complex UCC on Friday 22nd November 2019.

A new collaborative venture between Dr. Yvonne Nolan in the Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience and Dr. Eva McMullan in the Department of Music have brought these two disparate disciplines together to enhance learning for 2^nd year Biological Science students.

In a ground-breaking article recently published in Science Prof. Cryan along with postdoctoral fellow Eoin Sherwin, Prof Ted Dinan from Psychiatry, John Quinn from School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences and Seth Bordenstein from Vanderbilt University highlight the relationship between the microbiome and social behaviour across the lifespan.

Congratulations to Dr Gerard O'Keeffe on the award of UCC Research Supervisor of the Year 2019. This award recognises UCC researchers making exceptional and influential research contributions, pushing boundaries, enhancing knowledge in UCC.

ARTE, the European culture TV network, visited University College Cork last year, to film Prof John Cryan and his research team at work for inclusion in its documentary 'Our brain is what we eat'.  The ground breaking documentary by Raphaël Hitier, which examines the relationship between food and the brain was broadcast Europe-wide on the ARTE network last night.

Der Spiegel, the largest weekly news magazine in Germany, has profiled Prof John Cryan and his research work in its August 10^th 2019 edition. Der Spiegel, (The Mirror) is one of the most widely circulated news magazines in Europe, and according to The Economist, is one of continental Europe's most influential¹. Wissen, (Knowledge), Der Spiegel's bimonthly monothematic magazine also prominently features a profile of Prof Cryan's work in its 2019/3 edition.

Neuroscience graduate Elaine Patterson, now a senior scientist with DuPont at its Health & Nutrition Sciences Lab in Kantvik, Finland, is profiled in 'Webwire' in an article entitled 'The Search for Mood Microbes -A look inside the next frontier in probiotics: the connection between gut bacteria and the brain'.
