05 Feb 2014Neuroscience 2013: Karen Scott, a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of John Cryan described her work tracking molecular changes following a stressful event.
During a press conference at Neuroscience 2013, held recently in San Diago a team of scientists described recent studies pointing to differences in the brains and bodies of individuals with depression, and possible interventions to treat the disease and related mood disorders. Karen Scott, a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of John Cryan at University College Cork in Ireland, who is interested in stress sensitivity and stress resistance, described her work tracking molecular changes following a stressful event.

UCC’s Dr Eric Downer (Dept. Anatomy and Neuroscience) and Neurologist Dr. Orna O’Toole (Mercy University Hospital) have successfully been awarded funding under UCC’s School of Medicine Translational Research Access Programme (TRAP). The study entitled “Interferon-β signalling as a Cannabinoid target in Multiple Sclerosis” was one of seven projects awarded funding under the 2013 call.
