First University in the world to achieve a 5th Green Flag.

UCC's reassessment took place on 18th October 2023 by the following panel of experts from an Taisce:
- Deirdre O’Carroll, An Taisce, Green Campus Programme Manager.
- Joanne Scott, An Taisce, Green Schools Programme Manager.
- Tracey Lydon, An Taisce, Safe Routes to School Programme Manager.
The assessment specifically looks at implementation of the 7 steps of Green Flag across environmental and engagement themes and the following comments were noted:
- Student engagement and passion was exemplary.
- The Green Shoots programme was seen as highly innovative and one that should be emulated elsewhere.
- Procurement and the relationship with suppliers was highlighted as a key driver. KSG in particular commended for work on plastic free UCC and food waste reduction.
- Exemplary energy management team and clear plan for reductions in spite of campus growth.
- Our collective approach, leadership, and work to improve governance structure was commended.
