Hello! I am a graduate of the University of Oregon, born and raised in the Pacific Northwest of the United States.  My undergraduate degree was in Human Physiology, but I absolutely loved the anatomy component of my course work, which is how I ended up here in Cork!  The atmosphere of County Cork is much like home for me which made the move over here very smooth.  There are a total of 9 people in my program, so we have gotten to know each other quite well, especially in close quarters.  A major component of the course involves the dissection of a human cadaver in groups of 2 or 3, but a lot of the work is individual as well.  A typical week involves about 3-4 hours of lecture and 6-8 hours of lab time.  I love the small classroom setting of this program, as well as some of the larger combined lectures that we attend.  It gave me the opportunity to become very close with my direct classmates, but also branch out and meet students from other disciplines.  Studying and revising my course work each week is very time consuming, but doing it with one or two of my classmates means social time with grabbing lunches and coffee throughout the day, and doing fun activities on the weekends.  So far I have made a trip to Cobh Harbor, the Blarney Wool Mill, and Long Strand Beach in Clonakilty.  I have a 10 day road trip planned over the New Year and I am so excited to explore Belfast, Mayo, Sligo, Clare, Galway, and Kerry!

I joined the UCC Singers Competitive Subsection of the Choral Society and we rehearse once a week on Wednesday nights.  It is there that I have made even more friends and spend the evenings making music, which is something I have always been passionate about.  We travel each term to compete, and took Second Place at the Derry International Choral Festival in Northern Ireland October 26th, after only 5 weeks of rehearsal together!  They are a talented and dedicated group of musicians.  I am proud to be a member of their group, as well as one of the featured soloists at our recent performance in the Honan Chapel on Campus, Carols by Candlelight.

The highlight of my term so far has been the Pedagogy Module of my course.  I gave a 45 minute lecture on the topic of my choosing to my classmates and instructor.  I chose to lecture in Range of Motion and Immediate Injury Assessment.  I then shadowed Senior Medical Demonstrators in the FLAME lab and will prepare to teach a lab section myself in the spring semester.  I hope to be teaching at a Junior College or a University next year in a field related to the human body.  I would like to apply to schools in the future for a PhD in Neuroscience, but I am open to opportunities that arise in the meantime.  Neuroscience is something that I have been deeply interested in along with Anatomy, and I am really looking forward to the Neuroanatomy module that is scheduled for next semester.
