Best Publication of the Year - Undergraduate Author

This award recognises the best publication with a UCC undergraduate student as an author or co-author based on work undertaken, prior to graduation, in 2024. Both the student and the senior author / project supervisor will be recognised as recipients of the award. Publications include, but are not limited to, research article(s), book chapter(s) and conference proceedings. Publications involving UCC undergraduate students who have already graduated are eligible for consideration if the research was undertaken while the author was an undergraduate student. Nominations can be made by any UCC staff member.

Evaluation Criteria

Quality & Rigor of the Publication
  • Scientific or scholarly rigor, including the strength of the methodology, analysis, and conclusions.
  • Adherence to ethical standards and best practices in research and publication.

Originality & Innovation

  • Novelty and creativity of the research question, approach, or findings.
  • Contribution to advancing knowledge in the field.

Impact & Significance

  • Potential or demonstrated impact on the academic community, industry, or society.
  • Relevance and timeliness of the research topic.

Student Contribution

  • Demonstrated role of the undergraduate student in the research and publication process.
  • Evidence of the student's intellectual contribution, such as data collection, analysis, or writing.

Dissemination & Reach

  • Quality and reputation of the publication outlet (e.g., journal, conference, book).
  • Accessibility and reach of the publication to its intended audience.

Collaboration & Mentorship

  • Evidence of effective collaboration between the student and senior author/supervisor.
  • Role of the supervisor in mentoring the student and supporting their development.
