Research Team of the Year

This award recognises the most outstanding contribution by a research team in the calendar year 2024. It is open to research teams in a single discipline, department, project, centre or institution or across two or more disciplines, departments, centres or institutions. A Research Team can include one or more Principal Investigators, as appropriate. Nomination to and/or acceptance of any of the individual awards does not preclude the individual from being part of a team nominated for this category. Nominations can be made by any UCC staff member.

Evaluation Criteria

 

Relevant Achievements

  • Consistency and significance of high-level achievements by the team, relative to their career stage and field.
  • Demonstration of sustained excellence in research over the past year.

Research Excellence

  • Innovative thinking and originality in addressing research questions.
  • National and international recognition of excellence (e.g., awards, invitations, peer esteem indicators).
  • Evidence of collaborative engagement with external stakeholders, industry, or the community.
  • Quality and quantity of published outputs (e.g., journal articles, books, conference papers).

Impact

  • Encouragement and promotion of young researchers, including postgraduates, within the team.
  • Cultural, economic, and societal impact of the research.
  • Efforts to communicate research findings to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated interdisciplinary impact (e.g., bridging disciplines to solve complex problems).

Collaboration & Teamwork

  • Evidence of effective collaboration within the team and with external partners.
  • Integration of diverse perspectives and methodologies to address research challenges.

Societal & Economic Engagement

  • Engagement with societal challenges and contributions to public policy, industry, or community well-being.
  • Evidence of research addressing real-world problems with tangible outcomes.
