UCC Sport Star Award Winners 2022-23
The 39th UCC / River Lee Sports Star Awards in association with the Bank of Ireland were held in the River Lee Hotel on Monday 24th April.
12 individual award winners were presented with awards on the night. Equestrian & Olympic Weightlifting were honoured for the first time.
Conor McGlinchey, Kickboxing, was awarded the overall winner of the UCC Sports Star Awards in recognition of his performances over the past 12 months in his sport. He is ranked no 2 in Europe & no3 in the World in his weight category.
Dr Orlagh Farmer, UCC alumnus and recently retired Cork Ladies Gaelic Footballer was Guest of Honour.
The awardees were joined on the evening by family, coaches & UCC personnel.
11 different sports were recognised on the evening reflecting the diversity of sports available in UCC and the calibre of athlete in the different sports.
Team of the Year was awarded to UCC Women’s Premier Basketball team in recognition of winning the intervarsity for the first time since 2012 and being league finalists.
Billy Morgan & Brain Cuthbert were joint winners of “Coach of the Year” in recognition of UCC Gaelic Footballs Sigerson Cup success.
The Kieran Dowd Special Achievement Award was presented to JB McCarthy in recognition of his contribution to UCC TaeKwon Do Club.
