Paul and Fintan win Gold in Paris

Quercus Sports' Scholar, Paul O'Donovan, and partner Fintan McCarthy, win Gold in Paris

Congratulations to Quercus Scholar, Paul O'Donovan, and his partner, Fintan McCarthy, on their Men's Light Weight Double Sculls Gold medal at the Paris Olympics.

Paul and Fintan were cheered on by a huge Irish crowd as they dominated the 2,000 meter race to win Gold ahead of the Italians in Silver and the Greeks in Bronze.

Both Paul and Fintan are UCC alum, with Paul also being a Quercus alum. The medal ceremony was a sentimental occasion for a number of reasons, one being that this is the last time that we will see the Men's Light Weight Double Schulls at the Olympics, but also because of the palpable emotion from both men as Amhrán na bhFiann played out across the Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium.

A huge congratulations as well to Quercus Scholars, Margaret Cremen and Aoife Casey, who competed in the final of the Women's Light Weight Double Schulls. The young team, which have huge potential for the future, rowed well to place 5th at the Olympics.

Well done to all!
