Congratulations to Quercus Scholars Jenn Chadwick, Jacqui Walsh, Dave Calnan, Alex Whelan and Calvin O’Callaghan who are part of the group who founded new business Cork Cares which was launched last night.

The business provides people a way of giving back to local charities while getting something in return. They also provide charities with a steady source of income. Cork Cares has partnered with local businesses in Cork to offer great deals through their website with a percentage of each sale going to a local charity. When you purchase a deal you will be emailed a voucher with your unique code which you present at the till to redeem your deal. You can save the voucher to your phone/tablet or print it off, whichever is easier. They have partnered with six charities based in Cork to ensure that the effects of all donations are felt locally. When someone purchases a deal from the website, the proceeds are split up between Cork Cares, the merchant and the charity. Cork Cares only take enough to cover their costs and the merchant takes a small percentage to cover some of their costs. Before you purchase a deal you will be able to see how much is going to the charity and exactly where your money is going.

Well done to all!
