Welcome to the latest edition of SoPH News!

At the conclusion of a very successful academic year, we are delighted to bring you updates about the School's achievements, activities and upcoming events.
"Welcome to the Summer edition of SoPH News - The School of Public Health (SoPH) e-newsletter. This Newsletter covers our activities and outputs since our last issue up to early May.
SoPH News Summer 2025 - Issue 37
Firstly, I wish to reflect on a recent event that has impacted on all of us. Our dear colleague, Pawel Hursztyn, sadly was involved in a serious accident whilst climbing in East Cork on 5th July. Even though Pawel’s situation is stable, there will be life altering consequences, which require a long-term rehabilitation trajectory. I have been touched by Pawel’s resilience and determination, and also by the supportive messages and initiatives for Pawel and his family by all staff members. Our thoughts are with Pawel, and we are with Pawel and his family on this journey.
The School has set up a GoFundMe page to support Pawel's rehabilitation and you could kindly contribute to this very important fund, it would be very much appreciated.
Looking at the scope of this Newsletter, the Public Health impacts are wide ranging, including food policy, climate change, infant health, stroke prevention, substance misuse, suicide prevention and social protections. On this note, I would like to thank you all for your most valuable input and commitment to the work of the School of Public Health, at all levels. I also would like to thank our colleagues from the NSRF, CRF UCC, HSE Public Health and NCRI for the excellent collaboration, both in terms of teaching, research and service and community engagement.
I hope you enjoy the Summer 2025 edition of our Newsletter."
Professor Ella Arensman, Head of School.
