Award for Muireann Carmody at the Eli Lilly PG Research Symposium

Congratulations from the School of Microbiology!
Dr Thomas Brouder, Senior Scientist at Eli Lilly (one of four judges at the event) presented the 2nd place award to Muireann Carmody for her presentation entitled ‘Targeted synthesis and biological evaluation of heterocycles as bacterial anti-infectives’ at the 22nd Annual Eli Lilly Postgraduate Research Symposium in Organic and Pharmaceutical Chemistry.
Muireann, a final year PhD researcher, is jointly supervised by Dr Jerry Reen (School of Microbiology) and Dr Gerard McGlacken (Vice Dean of Research and Innovation, School of Chemistry). Her research tackling the antimicrobial resistance (AMR) challenge at the chemico-biological interface, is focused on the synthesis and development of chemical frameworks for anti-infective control of bacterial pathogens.
