UCC's Innovation Week will take place this year from April 7th - 11th. The aim of Innovation Week is to showcase some of the excellent innovations from across the UCC ecosystem, and to encourage UCC students, graduates, and researchers alike to think about the different ways that their ideas and research can be transformed to create economic and societal impact.
Many of the events scheduled across campus during Innovation Week are multi-disciplinary and include exciting collaborations between different Colleges and Research Institutes in UCC. The Colleges of Science, Engineering and Food Sciences, Medicine and Health and Tyndall National Institute are holding a collaborative event on Monday 7th April, which will showcase different innovations and their pathways to creating economic and societal impact. A panel discussion on Tuesday 8th April, co-organised with the Colleges of Business and Law, and Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences, will discuss innovation and how to encourage and amplify research commercialisation in the fields of social sciences, business, arts, law and humanities.
Other events during the week include a collaborative event between UCC and Enterprise Ireland, where funding opportunities to scale and grow SME companies through research and innovation will be presented. The week will also feature a showcase of recent start-ups from the IGNITE Graduate Business programme, a consultancy showcase and information session, training on intellectual property, and an event with UCC’s Entrepreneurs in Residence.
Speaking ahead of UCC’s Innovation Week, Prof John Cryan, Vice President for Research and Innovation at UCC said: “As part of UCC’s strategic goal of creating an innovation culture and entrepreneurial campus, we are thrilled to host Innovation Week again this year. Innovation Week provides a fantastic opportunity to highlight the progress and impact made through the UCC Futures programme in driving economic, societal, and cultural impact. By showcasing groundbreaking ideas and initiatives, we aim to encourage and inspire more students, researchers, and graduates to explore how their work can create real-world value.”
Dr Sally Cudmore, Director of UCC Innovation said: “Innovation Week is a key event in the UCC calendar, offering our community the chance to explore how their knowledge, research, and creativity can lead to real-world solutions to societal problems. We’re delighted to showcase outstanding innovations from students, graduates, and researchers, highlighting the depth of expertise, research and impact across the university and the impact that their ideas and research make on society.”
