Got an idea that keeps you up at night?
An itch to improve something or make a real difference?
IGNITE is the place to turn that thought into something real. Just ask Reece Hogan, founder of a.chara and one of our newest IGNITE entrepreneurs. We are now open for applications for our July 2025 start.
At IGNITE, we’re proud to support promising entrepreneurs who are making a difference. Today, we’re highlighting Reece Hogan, founder of a.chara: a smartphone-based support system designed for family caregivers of people living with dementia.
The Origin of a.chara
Reece’s journey began with a personal experience: caring for his grandmother following the loss of his grandfather. Through this, he witnessed the challenges faced by caregivers first-hand.
"I experienced first-hand the burden placed on caregivers. I felt something could be done," he explains. Originally an elderly care project, a.chara has since sharpened its focus specifically on dementia care, addressing a growing societal need.
Trends Shaping Dementia Care
As Reece looks ahead, he identifies three major trends shaping the sector: person-centred care, caregiver wellbeing, and the adoption of AI. "At a.chara, we’re focused on enhancing caregiver support and personalised care, while exploring how AI can be thoughtfully adopted to further improve both areas," he says.
What’s Next for a.chara?
In the coming months, a.chara will:
Build a talented, well-rounded team. Pilot its prototype with real users. Refine its business model for sustainable growth. Leverage the structure and support of the IGNITE programme to sharpen strategy.
Advice for Future IGNITE Entrepreneurs
Reece’s advice for anyone considering IGNITE:
"If you’ve got an idea that keeps you up at night, an itch to improve something or make a difference - IGNITE is the place to turn that thought into something real."
The Value of IGNITE
While still in the early stages of his journey, Reece has already found the programme invaluable:
"Connecting with the right people at the right time has made a real difference. The support network and guidance have helped us boost our momentum and shape our direction."
Stay tuned as Reece and a.chara continue to grow, innovate, and support caregivers in need.
