UCC (Departments of German and History) and Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg (Irish Studies) are delighted to announce a collaborative study day on 'Journeys Across the Waves', featuring presentations and discussions on Irish-German identity and Irish-German historical parallels, among other topics. Journeys Across the Waves: Discovering Irish Identity

 

This study day focuses on Irish identity formation and expression, and on Irish-German and Irish-American contact zones and interrelationships, in accounts of journeys and cultural contact from the earliest times until the twenty-first century. It explores European and transatlantic entanglements and the relationships between identities and communities, looking at how these relationships play out in texts and narratives. Featuring presentations, shared readings and interactive discussions, this study day allows students to explore diverse Irish identities in European and transatlantic contexts. Sign up here:
