CGR: Visiting Researcher Collaboration in 2024

19 Dec 2024

A collaborative meeting on ‘Telehealth for palliative care in underserved populations’ took place between international sector partners on 12th September 2024.

Centre for Gerontology and Rehabilitation and School of Nursing and Midwifery hosted the morning part of the visit, at Brookfield Health Sciences Complex, with an afternoon session being hosted at Marymount University Hospital & Hospice.

The meeting also offered an opportunity to discuss synchronicity between the AI4HOPE and InTouch Horizon European projects, bringing experts together from universities and institutions in Ireland, the UK, Australia and New Zealand.

The visiting delegation included Dr. Matthew Allsop, Dr. Sarute Chawvavanich, Ms. Jacqueline Birtwistle and Mr. William Goodman (University of Leeds), Dr. Rosemary Frey (University of Auckland) and Dr. Aileen Collier (Flinders University) who had met, earlier in the week, with a number of bodies in both Leeds and London.

The large, collaborative team involved in the day extended amongst a wider number of universities, institutes, along with health and social care professionals.

A highlight of the discussion included a video link with Ms. Jane Clare (AIIHPC) and Dr. Frances Cleary (Walton Institute, SETU).

The UCC team included: Prof. Suzanne Timmons, Dr. Siobhán Fox, Dr. Kseniya Simbirtseva and Mr. Christopher Walsh (CGR), Prof. Nicola Cornally, Dr. Noeleen Brady, Mr. Edward Quinn, and PhD candidates Ms. Patrice Crowley and Ms. Isabel Ronan (SONM).

Our UCC Colleagues, Prof. Ciara Heavin and Dr. Ann Kirby (CUBS) joined the team at Marymount University Hospital & Hospice for the afternoon session.

We were very grateful for the welcome given by Dr. Fiona Kiely, Dr. Karie Dennehy, Dr. Mary Jane O’Leary and Dr. Jessica Lee, where the group had the opportunity to discuss Telehealth in Palliative Care research and fellowship programmes - shaping conversations, practice and policy, along with learning of research findings on  ‘Lessons learned since Covid-19: Towards a blended model of care in the adoption of Telehealth in Palliative Care’.

With special thanks for the support given to our visitors from Mr. Phil Maguire and colleagues of UCC Department of Music.
