The Annual Conference of the Centre for Criminal Justice and Human Rights
The fourth annual Conference of the Centre for Criminal Justice and Human Rights took place on Thursday the 29th April. The Theme for this year's event was "Borders of Justice: Locating the Law in Times of Transition" and the various papers which were presented reflected upon how reactionary law making and the related rhetoric of crisis impact negatively on fundamental rights protection and the criminal law as well as many related topics.
The Conference programme featured an eclectic mix of papers on a diverse range of topics, approached from empirical, doctrinal and theoretical perspectives, with contributors drawn from a variety of institutions both nationally and internationally. Professor John Gardner from Oxford University provided the keynote address with a presentation on Jean Charles de Menezes. James Gallen from Trinity College Dublin won the prize of best paper for his presentation on "International Law in the Circumstances of Transition: Towards a Law of Transitional Justice and Development?"
