National Integrated Strategies to Eliminate Violence Against Children
Dr Ursula Kilkelly, Co-Director of the CCJHR, recently acted as Rapporteur at a high level international conference designed to promote strategies to protect children from violence.
Organised by the Council of Europe Children’s Rights Policy Division, the conference took place in Vienna on May 20th and 21st and was addressed by the UN Special Representative on Violence against Children, Martos Santos Pais, the Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe Maud De Boer Buquicchio, and Paulo Sergio Pinheiro, author of the UN Study on Violence against Children. It also heard from UNICEF, UNHCR, UNESCO and NGOs, children’s rights commissioners and political officer holders from all five continents. Ursula presented the conference conclusions and mapped recommendations for future international action in the area.
