Women in Leadership Series returns with Eilis Barry, CEO of FLAC
Eilis Barry, Chief Executive Officer of FLAC, joined Dr Fiona Donson of the School of Law in conversation as part of the College of Business and Law’s Women in Leadership continuing series.
Head of College Professor Ursula Kilkelly welcomed guests to the event, which was held on 15th March 2023 in the Council Room, North Wing of UCC, and hosted jointly by the College and by the UCC FLAC Society, represented by its Chair Megan Lawton.
Topics covered in the wide-ranging conversation included legal reform and improving access to justice for all, the early years of FLAC, the meaning of leadership, and the importance of resilience and shared values.
An Adjunct Professor in the School of Law, Eilis Barry was appointed CEO of FLAC (Free Legal Advice Centres) in 2016, and had been a former board member and chairperson of the organisation. Prior to that, she was a Barrister specialising in employment law, anti-discrimination, and equality. She served as legal advisor of the Equality Authority, and head of its legal section from 2000-2009. She is also a member of the Civil Legal Aid Review Group.
The Women in Leadership series is an initiative led by Professor Kilkelly and involves conversations with female leaders exploring their experiences and impact. The series hopes to inspire others in their paths to leadership.
