The CUBS Vice-Dean of Teaching and Learning is pleased to introduce the CUBS Teaching Excellence Award for Business Education 2025– 2026. The aim of the awards is to recognise and celebrate outstanding educators within our business school community. You can nominate a staff member here. Nominations can be made by students or fellow CUBS staff.
CUBS offers its students an exceptional educational experience that enables them to reach their full potential as students and as individuals. A key strength is our strong community that fosters an open, supportive, and flexible learning environment. This award aims to recognize staff that go above and beyond the normal expectations of their role in enabling this educational experience.
The aims of the award system are:
- To recognise teaching excellence in CUBS and encourage staff to apply for L&T awards at university level.
- To promote and share excellence in teaching, learning, and examining.
- To ensure that the student voice remains central to the recognition of teaching excellence.
- To enhance our existing commitment to acknowledging and celebrating the efforts of those who are having a strong and positive impact on student learning in CUBS.
Award Categories and Eligibility
In 2026, up to five Awards for Teaching Excellence will be granted to staff who have demonstrated sustained commitment to improving student learning outcomes in CUBS. It is anticipated that the Teaching Awards will be distributed across all the categories (with one award per category), although the pattern of distribution will ultimately be determined by the quality of nominations.
All CUBS staff involved in the pedagogic support of learners in CUBS in the academic year 2025/26 are eligible. This includes, but is not limited to: lecturers, tutors, demonstrators, project/thesis supervisors, programme directors, programme administrators, student engagement staff, careers support). The award categories are:
- Innovation in Teaching & Assessment
- Student Engagement
- Ethics, Responsibility & Sustainability in Teaching
- Integrating Inclusive Methods into Teaching & Assessment
- Internationalisation in Teaching
Outline of Process
The following outlines the various steps and elements of the Teaching Awards process:
- The CUBS Vice-Dean of Teaching and Learning will invite nominations from staff and students via relevant communications.
- Nominations are submitted via a short nomination form asking the nominator to outline their reasons for nomination (300 words max)
- Submissions are reviewed by the CUBS Teaching Awards Committee.
- Award recipients are announced, and the awards are presented by the Dean of CUBS at the Learning and Teaching Showcase.
Awards Committee
All nominations and submissions will be reviewed by an Award Committee comprised of the following:
- Dean (or his/her nominee)
- Vice-Dean of Learning and Teaching
- Vice-Dean of Graduate Studies
- PEABS representative
- CUBS PRME Champion
- Students Union Education Officer (or his/her nominee)
Review Criteria
The Awards Committee will review each submission based on evidence of excellence in the category of the nomination. These include innovation in teaching and assessment methods, activities impacting student engagement, activities surrounding the integration of ERS into teaching, inclusive methods used in teaching and assessment, and internationalisation. The committee will be looking for activities and efforts that go beyond the normal expectations of the role.
Guiding Indicators
Innovation in Teaching & Assessment:
- Creative and original approaches to teaching and assessment design
- Effective and adaptive use of technology and resources
- Use of authentic, varied assessment aligned to learning objectives
- Evidence of positive impact on student learning
Student Engagement:
- Active participation in class activities
- Responsiveness to student needs and feedback
- Promotion of student collaboration and interaction
- Encouragement of critical thinking and inquiry
Ethics, Responsibility & Sustainability in Teaching:
- Integration of ethical and responsible management frameworks into course content
- Promotion of sustainability awareness and critical thinking among students
- Encouragement of student engagement with real-world societal challenges
- Evidence of impact on student values, understanding, and behaviour
- Alignment with PRME principles and responsible business education
Integrating Inclusive Methods into Teaching & Assessmsent:
- Recognition and accommodation of diverse student backgrounds and needs
- Designing teaching strategies, practices, or approaches that accommodate the diverse needs of all learners
- Use of accessible teaching materials and approaches
- Creation of an equitable and supportive learning environment
- Evidence of inclusive practices that enhance learning outcomes for all students
Internationalisation in Teaching
- Integration of international and cross-cultural perspectives into course content
- Responsiveness to the needs of a diverse, international student body
- Use of globally relevant case studies, examples, or partnerships
- Promotion of intercultural awareness and global citizenship
- Evidence of impact on students' ability to operate in international contexts
