Virtual Conferring Ceremony for School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology students in Autumn 2020

On Thursday 19 November 2020 we celebrated the conferring of our BSc (Hons) Biochemistry, Biomedical Science, Biotechnology and Genetics students, and also, our PhD students.
On Thursday 19 November 2020 we celebrated the conferring of our BSc (Hons) Biochemistry, Biomedical Science, Biotechnology and Genetics students and our PhD students. This was our first virtual conferring ceremony and it provided an opportunity for staff and family to post messages of support and congratulations on the Pubble message wall. The guest speaker Taoiseach Micheál Martin who is a graduate of UCC (BA degree and MA in political history) delivered a positive and inspirational address.
PhD Graduates
Our postgraduate students who were conferred with degrees of Doctor of Philosophy were:
Dr Sinead O'Loughlin
Thesis title: Programmed genetic decoding with an emphasis on translational bypassing.
Supervisors: Professor John Atkins and Professor Pasha Baranov.
Dr Sarah Riis
Thesis title: Insulin-like Growth Factor signals in mitochondria protection in cancer cells.
Supervisor: Professor Rosemary O'Connor.
Dr Leonie Rieger
Thesis title: Control of Insulin-like Growth Factor Receptor activity in cancer cells.
Supervisor: Professor Rosemary O'Connor.
