2021 Chinese-Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition for Irish Secondary School Students was held successfully

2021 Chinese-Bridge Competition

The 14th Chinese-Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition for Irish Secondary School Students was held online on the 29th of May 2021. 

This competition was hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Ireland, organized by UCC Confucius Institute and co-sponsored by UCD Confucius Institute, NUI Galway Confucius Institute and Maynooth University Confucius Classroom. More than 30 people including directors, evaluation experts, teachers from Irish Secondary Schools, Confucius Institutes and Contestants attended this competition.

Mr. Zheng Dawei, the head of the education section of the Chinese Embassy in Ireland, Cllr. Joe Kavanagh, the Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr. Mary Linehan Foley, the Mayor of the County of Cork and Professor Kiri Paramore, the director of department of Asian Studies & co-director of the UCC Confucius Institute delivered speeches separately before the competition started.

The competition was divided into three sections: Individual speech, Chinese culture quiz and talent show.

Chloe O'Connell from Christ King Secondary School won the first prize and will represent Ireland in the finals of the 2021 Chinese- Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition for World Middle School Students in the second half of the year.
