Chinese Courses for Children and Teens
Chinese Class for Teenage Students(12--16 years old)
This course is designed for learners whose first language is not Chinese, including children of Chinese heritage without a Chinese language background. This course is not intended for students preparing for the Irish Chinese Leaving Certificate (for that, please register in the corresponding course). Depending on enrollment, classes may be conducted in a group format or as one-on-one, one-on-two, or one-on-three sessions.
- For Children (12 and under):
Learning Approach: Topic-based teaching emphasizing fun and engagement to sustain learners’ interest.
Content & Method: Each lesson introduces a small amount of language content, focusing on core vocabulary, basic expressions, numbers, colors, and simple daily dialogues. Most of the class time is devoted to interactive activities such as games, role-play, songs, and hands-on projects. This approach encourages natural language acquisition through playful repetition and contextual use.
- For Teens (13–18):
Learning Approach: Structured, communicative, and task-based learning, balancing language accuracy with fluency.
Content & Method: Lessons cover more advanced vocabulary, sentence structures, and grammar, with an emphasis on practical communication skills for everyday life, school, and social situations. Students will engage in dialogues, storytelling, and project-based tasks that require reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Cultural topics—such as modern Chinese society, traditional festivals, and contemporary youth culture—are integrated to enhance motivation and contextual understanding. This approach builds a solid foundation for continued Chinese study and prepares students for higher-level exams if desired.
