Annual Transition Year Event

SoAP TY Event 2020

School of Applied Psychology TY Event 2021

In March 2021, transition year students from all over Ireland spent two days with the School of Applied Psychology as part of our online transition year programme.

March 2021 was the fifth year anniversary of the event, but it marked the first year of it being a virtual event.

As this has annually become one of the most sought-after TY experiences for students considering a career in Applied Psychology, in light of Covid-19, we believed it was important to drive the event ahead using an online platform and it was a great success.

2022 Event

Should it be possible to host the event in person during 2022, what you can expect during the intensive few days is being able to meet our lecturing staff and postgraduates, getting to see and experience cognitive testing, EEG, and exploring human computer interaction. You will be introduced to the wider campus on a guided tour of UCC and the Boole Library and engage with the UCC Study Skills Centre and student members of the Applied Psychology Society.

The TY initiative aims to give students a taste of both the BA Applied Psychology (CK120) and the BA Applied Psychology & Computing (CK121), open their minds as to the kind of careers they might like to pursue, and help them to make an informed decision when choosing their third level programme.

Online registration for 2021/2022 will open in October 2021.  We will not be accepting any applications before this.

Due to the popularity of this programme, we only take a maximum of 3 students per school.

The Programme Coordinator is Veronica Forde and all queries can be sent to

Feedback for the 2021 Event

Feedback from recent participants was very positive and below are just a couple of examples:

"I found it fascinating and I have been looking into Psychology as a career path since and trying to find out about job opportunities and what the course contains. Also since there were no other TY events this year, it was really nice to be able to get out and get involved in something that I was so interested in. Thank you for holding this event."

"I just wanted to thank you and the team for organising such a great two days. I really enjoyed it and it really helped further my understanding of Psychology and confirm my interest in it. It was very well organised and I really enjoyed interacting with everyone. I hope to come and have a walk around UCC campus soon when possible."
