Community Activites and Events

As a community of applied academic psychologists, we view knowledge generation and knowledge exchange as situated both within and outside the boundaries of the University. We are committed to implementing UCC’s Civic Engagement Plan 2017-2022 ‘Together, With and For Community’.  Staff of the School have established strong interpersonal relationships over time with key personnel in non-governmental organisations (NGOs), community-based and statutory services (in particular clinical psychology) resulting in partnerships related to teaching and community-based learning, a significant number of substantial placements on a number of our postgraduate programmes, and collaborative research and civic engagement.

In 2018-2019, staff of the School engaged in research partnership with many community organisations.  Examples of research include research on homelessness, older adults with dementia, chronic pain, drug and related deaths, neuropsychological outcomes in congenital heart disease, addiction, children with acquired brain injury, refugee and migrant resettlement and integration,  creating connected communities in European small islands. This research has significant community impact.
