Hospital: South Infirmary-Victoria University Hospital (SIVUH).

Subspecialty interest: Regional anaesthesia, paediatric anaesthesia, advance airway management.

Teaching interest: Postgraduate doctors and medical students - clinical and didactic; 3rd Year Medical Students’ Anaesthesia Tutor, University College Cork.

Research interest: Regional anaesthesia, paediatric anaesthesia, patient safe and quality of care.

As the Chairman of the SIVUH Department of Anaesthesia (2008-2017), I have contributed significantly to the development and ongoing innovation in anaesthesia related patient care at local, regional and national level. During the course of this timeframe variuos initiatives were undertaken such as the introduction of peripheral neural blockade, expansion of paediatric services and reconfiguration of regional elective surgical services. I was involved in producing national guidelines and developing a foundation curriculum for regional anaesthesia training for the College of Anaesthetists of Ireland (COAI). As Hospital Tutor for the COAI (2007-2015), I consolidated and developed an educational programme at SIVUH that meets the requirements of the Colleges’ curriculum. As 3rd Year Medical Student Tutor, I have contributed significantly to the undergraduate teaching programme for Anaesthesia at University College Cork.

I have a significant interest in supporting and developing research for both postgraduate doctors and medical students and supervise 4-5 research projects per year.
