The Bridge: Alumni Newsletter

A Message from the Director - September 2025

11 Sep 2025

Dinosaurs, secret treasures in the gallery, and discoveries that could change lives: UCC is full of stories, and I am delighted to share some of them with you in our latest e-newsletter.

This issue highlights a remarkable fossil discovery that reshapes our understanding of the origins of feathers, along with groundbreaking developments in cancer research.

Last year, more than 8,700 alumni worldwide took part in our online survey. Of those, over 800 alumni expressed an interest in learning more about leaving a legacy to their alma mater. Since then, many of you have helped to shape the creation of the new legacy giving brochure, Your Legacy. UCC's Future: A Lasting Investment. I am sincerely grateful to everyone who contributed to the brochure and am delighted that it is launching in time for International Legacy Giving Day on 13 September.

The Great Book of Ireland, acquired by UCC in 2012, is a cultural treasure that is currently on display in the Glucksman and well worth a visit if you are coming to campus.

In the other news, the UCC Women Graduates’ Association relaunched at a special event on campus to mark its 100th anniversary. Information for how to join is available in the article.

Whether you graduated last year or many decades ago, I hope you will take pride in the part you play in this ongoing story. Your support, your interest, and your connection with UCC ensure that research, culture, and student life continue to flourish.  Please join the new UCC Alumni Online platform, designed to help you connect with fellow graduates, share and read stories from the community, update your details with ease, book places at events and reunions, and access benefits and photo albums.

Best wishes,
