100 Years of Empowering Women

The UCC Women Graduates’ Association was relaunched to a full house last week with an excellent talk on “100 Years of Empowering Women” by guest speaker, Fiona Ahern.
President of UCC, Professor John O’Halloran, warmly welcomed everyone and congratulated UCC WGA President, Ciara McAuliffe, and the committee of Mary Morrissey, Emma Long, Bettie Higgs, Mary Hurley, Joan Downey and Siobhán Lehane on beginning a new chapter for the association in both the 180th year of the university’s establishment and the centenary of the Irish Federation of University Women.
Gisèle Scanlon, President of the Irish Federation of University Women, spoke of the rich history of the network, both in Ireland and around the world. Special thanks to UCC alum and valued advisor, Mary Morrissey, former President of the Irish Federation of University Women, who sparked the idea for the relaunch. Wishing the UCC Women Graduates’ Association every success for the year ahead!
