Note: According to an official National Army report applying to 8 February 1923 and relating to the Bantry district, ‘Four armed and two unarmed Irregulars were captured in Bantry. One of the armed men, who resisted arrest, was shot dead.’ See CE, 9 Dec. 1923. A slightly later report named the captured men with rifles as Murphy (shot dead for resisting arrest), Crowley, Hennessy, and Menihan. See CE, 10 Feb. 1923.

The daily report of the 30th Battalion of the National Army for 9 February 1923 indicated that the Irregular who had been shot dead on 7 February was named Murphy. See CW OPS/04/01, Daily Report of 9 Feb. 1923 by 30th Battalion (Military Archives).
