Note: A native of Lancashire, Bayley was one of the Auxiliaries killed or mortally wounded in perhaps the single greatest disaster suffered by crown forces in Ireland during the war of 1919-21. He had been a member of the ADRIC for less than two months. He ‘was interred at the Southern Cemetery, Manchester. He was formerly in the R.A.F., and during the last rites an aeroplane circled overhead. The Manchester Regt. supplied the firing party of 40. On the coffin was a tiny tribute of flowers sent by a lady at Macroom.’ See II, 6 Dec. 1920.
