RIC Constable Isaac James Rea
RIC Constable Isaac James Rea (aged 20) from Durrus, Co. Cork (Cappoquin, Co. Waterford, and Central Military Hospital, Cork)

Note: While walking on a street in Cappoquin, Co. Waterford, Constable Rea was mortally wounded by a shot fired from a passing car. He was transferred to the Central Military Hospital in Cork city, where he died on 28 December 1920. He was interred three days later near his home at Durrus near Bantry. His mother predeceased him by only a few days. Constable Rea had served with the RIC for only ten months, having previously been a small farmer. His sister, Kathleen Olive Rea of Skibbereen, later sought compensation for her brother’s death, but her application was rejected on a technicality. See CCE, 11 June 1921.
