Joan O’Mahony is completing her PhD in Applied Social Studies and has gained a MA of Social Science and Sociology. She has a BA in Community & Family Studies, Dip in Local Government and certificates in Teastas Eorpach na Gaeilge.

Completing a PhD in Applied Social Studies: Women Choosing to be Childless in Ireland, one of the first studies of its kind in the Irish context. It explores conceptual issues of embeddedness, individualization, reflexivity, stigma, & spoiled identity, & focuses explicitly on women & women's issues around fertility.
