Dr Emanuel Popovici Awarded Prestigious Mallik Medal
Dr. Emanuel Popovici, Director of Embedded.Systems@UCC in the School of Engineering's Discipline of Electrical and Electronic Engineering wins the highly prestigious Reed and Mallik Medal for Urban Planning and Design from the Institute of Civil Engineers in London. The award is given to authors from both industry and academia who have produced work judged by their peers to be of exceptional quality and benefit to the civil engineering, construction and materials science community.
The co-authored paper Estimating environmental exposure of cyclists in Cork using limited sensing capabilities; by Myles Galvin, Benjamin Lenihan, Emanuel Popovici, Ronan Doorley, Vikram Pakrashi and Bidisha Ghosh involved some top notch collaboration with researchers from UCC, UCD and TCD and it started from an inter-disciplinary final year project co-supervised by Drs Emanuel Popovici (Electrical and Electronic Engineering) and Vikram Pakrashi (Civil and Environmental Engineering) at UCC in 2013-2014. During the same time, some other notable work supervised by the two academics also published by the Institute of Civil Engineers included the first modelling testing of the historic Daly's Bridge (also known as the Shaky Bridge), a landmark in Cork City.
