In association with the Society, Economy and Culture Research Centre presents:

The launch of Criminal Women: Gender Matters with a seminar on 25th May 2022. 2-4pm at the CACSSS Seminar Room (G27), O’ Rahilly Building, UCC.

Inspired by Pat Carlen’s 1985 book Criminal Women it includes a foreword by Pat Carlen and an endnote by Loraine Gelsthorpe.

All the chapters focus on pioneering feminist biographical research with justice involved women.

The book is a genuinely collective endeavour by the Criminal Women Voice, Justice and Recognition Network (Universities of York, University College Cork, Durham, Leicester de Montfort)  which aims to centre women’s voices through a body of feminist research exploring the challenges women who are incarcerated and/or in the criminal justice system face.

The seminar includes contributions from the authors: Sharon Grace, Tammi Walker, Hannah King, Vicky Seaman, Orla Lynch, Lucy Baldwin, Kate O'Brien, Alison Jobe, Maggie O'Neill and we will also be joined online by Loraine Gelsthorpe.

The session will be chaired by Prof. Maggie O'Neill, co-director of the Economy, Society and Culture Research Centre.
