Research Supervisor of the Year

This award recognises, encourages and rewards those who have shown sustained excellence in the supervision and development of exceptional and influential researchers.

  • This award is student-led and requires two nominators – two current postgraduate research students or one current postgraduate student and a graduate who has completed their research within the last 5 years.

Evaluation Criteria

Mentorship & Guidance
  • Quality and availability of academic and personal guidance.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate students to achieve their potential.

Research Development Support
  • Effectiveness in helping students develop research skills and independence.
  • Support for students in publishing, presenting, and disseminating their research.

Professional Development
  • Commitment to fostering students' career development and employability.
  • Encouragement of networking, collaboration, and professional opportunities.

Feedback & Communication
  • Timely, constructive, and actionable feedback on research progress.
  • Clear and open communication with students.

Inclusivity & Wellbeing
  • Support for students' mental health and wellbeing.
  • Promotion of an inclusive, respectful, and supportive research environment.

Recognition & Impact
  • Evidence of students' success under their supervision (e.g., awards, publications, career outcomes).
  • Positive testimonials from current and former students.
