UCC Pharmacy Students Gain Insight into Diverse Career Paths at PIER Virtual Industry Event
UCC pharmacy students had the opportunity to explore career opportunities during a virtual industry career information event held on Monday, 7 October 2024.
Organized by PIER (Pharmacists in Industry Education and Regulatory), this online event highlighted the diverse pathways available to pharmacists interested in roles beyond patient-facing positions in the life sciences, education and regulatory sectors.
Opening the session, PIER Chair David O’Grady introduced the event and its agenda, which included an inspirational talk by Rosemarie Tully (Avadel & PIER Committee) titled Crafting Your Future Vision and a panel discussion featuring pharmacists from organizations such as AstraZeneca, DHL Life Sciences & Healthcare, HPRA, Lilly, Novartis, Optum, and Pfizer.
UCC graduates Aideen McNamara and Hazel Thornton were among the speakers who shared their career journeys, offering students valuable insights into roles within regulatory affairs, clinical development, and manufacturing. The panel emphasized the value of a pharmacy degree and its transferable skills, while encouraging attendees to explore career transitions and pursue opportunities aligned with their passions.
