David Latten Social Impact Awards 2024

Two School of Microbiology students have been awarded the inaugural David Latten Social Impact Award which is funded by Logitech.
In July 2023, the David Latten Social Impact Award was established by the Logitech Cares Fund, a fund of Tides Foundation to celebrate the life of David Latten.
David Latten was Head of Global Indirect Procurement and Supplier Diversity at Logitech. David was known to colleagues as someone who worked to make a difference every day, and was a passionate champion of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) in his role of supply chain management and beyond.
In line with David’s work with the Coalition for Gender Fair Procurement and Diversity Equity and Inclusion, the David Latten Social Impact Awards aim to champion equity in supply chain management.
Both awardees exhibited awareness of supply chains - using vaccines and labs, respectively, as their examples and how it relates to their studies and future career plans.
- Erika Slattery in 4th year received first prize - €1,500
- Jacqueline Osei is in 3rd year and shares second place with a student in the School of Chemistry - €750
The Latten and O'Keefe families, colleagues from Logitech and friends gathered with students and staff of UCC in the North Wing Council Chamber for this very special event. Professor Sarah Culloty welcomed everyone and highlighted the significance of this award. David’s wife, Dr Neasa O’Keefe, spoke movingly about her husband, quoting from a speech he had delivered when addressing the UN in March 2023. David believed in fairness and equal opportunities for all and that no matter what one’s role or discipline, everyone can make a difference for the better. Neasa also spoke about their three sons as they beamed on proudly listening. Robert O'Mahony, Head of Sustainability at Logitech, shared how valued and respected David was as a colleague, leader and friend.
Congratulations from all at the School of Microbiology to Erika Slattery and Jacqueline Osei on their wonderful achievements.
