President Michael D. Higgins
Dr. Colin Sage meeting with President Michael D. Higgins at Áras an Úachtaráin on Wednesday 14th December.
Dr Colin Sage – together with Prof Ed Byrne (Process Engineering) and Dr Ger Mullally (Sociology) – was invited to meet with President Michael D. Higgins at Áras an Úachtaráin on Wednesday 14th December to present him with a copy of their edited book, Transdisciplinary Perspectives on Transitions to Sustainability, published by Routledge in August 2016.
The volume represents a very tangible outcome of a process initiated by Colin back in 2011 when his proposal for a Research Priority Area on Environmental Citizenship was accepted by the University. This was followed by a one day workshop and a two-day conference (‘Transdisciplinary Conversations’) that brought together a number of interested researchers from across UCC as well as keynote contributors from Austria and the UK.
The challenge now is to continue building research collaboration across different disciplines in UCC as we develop new approaches capable of addressing the interconnected issues of sustainability confronting contemporary society. In this, Geography continues to hold a pivotal place in facilitating such collaboration.
