Kerry FaME Co-Design: Turning Knowledge into Action

On 20th March 2025, the FaME Ireland team hosted the first of three multiagency and co-design workshop in Tralee for over 30 local leads and advocates for community based older people's health services and exercise services. The aim was to explore ways to embed existing service provision in the community, and to improve access, reach and sustainability of the FaME exercise programme in the Kerry region.
We had fantastic engagement across a range of services, providers and interests, ranging from service users and patient advocates, hospital and community based clinicians, GPs, physiotherapists and other primary care clinicians, voluntary and community services leaders and exercise providers and leaders. Over the day we explored through a 'world cafe' co-design format a range of local issues, and captured voices of all on the following areas relating to the local FaME programme delivery.
Access to the programme – How do we get the right people into the programme, and how could we enhance referral pathways?
Running the programme effectively – How can we maintain essential components and participant engagement?
Keeping people active after FaME – How can we encourage participants to stay active and socially connected post-programme?
Ensuring long-term viability of FaME – How can we support and secure funding and building a sustainable workforce?
