UCC IEEE Student Branch
History was made on November 30th, 2011, when the first IEEE Student Branch was established at University College Cork (UCC), Ireland. The UCC IEEE Student Branch is the second IEEE student branch in Ireland, the previous one established in 2002. The UCC student branch has rapidly grown to its 25 student members strength with the newly elected officers listed as: Chair: Kilian O'Donoghue; Vice Chair: Cian Cassidy, and Treasurer: Philip Marraccini. The Chapter was initiated by Nabeel Riza (IEEE Fellow), newly appointed Chair Professor of Electrical & Electronic Engineering (EEE) and EEE Department Head, UCC. Prof. Riza is also the Founding Branch Advisor. IEEE Member Dr. Domenico Zito, Lecturer EEE Dept. UCC and Peter Kennedy (IEEE Fellow), Professor EEE Dept. are playing an active role in developing the Student Branch. As first action item, the Branch has co-sponsored the short course on Power Electronic Devices by Prof. Ettore Napoli of the University of Naples. Dec.14, 2011. The Branch looks forward to contributing to IEEE student member activities at UCC and engaging with the global IEEE network of students and experienced professionals.
