chAnGE - innovative learning for a more climate-resilient healthcare service for older people

University College Cork recently hosted a Transnational Project Meeting of the ‘Climate change and Healthy AgeinG: co-creating E-learning for resilience and adaptation’ (chAnGE) project, where Prof. Suzanne Timmons of CGR is the lead coordinator. This was hosted by Prof. Timmons and took place, online, from 20-22 January 2025.

This €1.5 million EU-funded Erasmus+ project is an alliance of universities, vocational education and training providers, and health & social care organisations, across Ireland, Portugal, Finland, Austria & Greece. Together we are co-creating a suite of online micro credentials for health and social care workers who deliver care to older people.

Recent severe weather events have highlighted the climate-vulnerability of older people in Europe, and the challenge of providing safe and responsive healthcare during climate crisis events. We plan to enable and empower health and social care workers to plan and incorporate climate adaptation and resilience into their everyday work.

The innovative education will be interactive, accessible, bite-sized, and stackable, and co-created with target learners and older people, at EQF level 4-6. Learners will have access to resources for learning amplification, allowing them to be climate-resilience champions at work and to train others. The learning content and learning-amplification resources will be freely available for anyone to adapt or use.

The next TPM is scheduled to take place in Athens, Greece.

Meeting Support: Dr. Melissa Meyer & Mr. Christopher Walsh.
