CGR highlights research on Microbiome and Cognitive Decline at AD/PD 2025

8 Apr 2025

Congratulations to Dr. Kseniya Simbirtseva, who represented CGR and APC Microbiome Ireland at AD/PD 2025 – the International Conference on Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Diseases and related Neurological Disorders, held in Vienna, Austria.

This year’s prestigious congress welcomed over 5,000 participants from around the world, maintaining its reputation as one of the most important global events in the field of neurodegenerative and neurocognitive disorders.

Dr. Simbirtseva presented findings from the COGBIOME project, a joint initiative led in collaboration with Prof. Suzanne Timmons and Prof. Paul O'Toole, exploring the role of the gut microbiome in cognitive decline. Her talk, titled “Gut Microbiome Alterations and Their Association with Cognitive Decline in Neurocognitive Disorders” was very well received.

In addition to presenting, Dr. Simbirtseva served as a moderator of the highly engaging symposium on ‘Brain-Gut Interactions, Microbiome’ alongside Dr. Sangram Sisodia, where leading experts discussed emerging evidence and novel insights into the microbiome–brain connection.

This achievement highlights CGR’s ongoing commitment to translational, collaborative research and to contributing meaningfully to the global effort to better understand and treat neurodegenerative diseases.
