Winner of 2014 Sakharov Prize Announced
UCC students involved in deciding the winner of the 2014 Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought.
In conjunction with the European Parliament Office in Ireland, students of the LLM on International Human Rights Law and Public Policy debated and voted on the seven nominees for the 2014 Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought on the 7th October 2014. Of the seven nominees, the overall winner was Dr. Denis Mukwege. Following the debate, the European Parliament Office in Ireland submitted a report of the event to MEPs and the European Parliament Human Rights Unit. On the 21st October 2014, the Conference of Presidents of the European Parliament awarded the prize to Dr Denis Mukwege.
