Hearing the Voice of a Battered Person Must be a Priority

Dr Ursula Kilkelly and Dr Catherine O'Sullivan wrote an article in the Irish times on Wednesday the 26 of May 2010 in response to recently issued guidance from the HSE to social workers on the approach they should take with families suffering domestic violence and abuse.
The key recommendation in the guidance was that the wishes of the victim should be listened to. Kilkelly and O’Sullivan note that while this recommendation accords with international best practice, more needs to be done in Ireland to give better effect to this principle.
