CSEL endeavours to have a positive impact on the local community.  We aim to offer evidence-based insights to stakeholders in sport and contribute to the development of national sport policy .

This pursuit has seen:

  • The foundation of Ireland’s first sports law clinic.
  • Collaboration with both the local football club Cork City FC and Cork Racecourse, Mallow.
  • Members of CSEL have carried out pro bono consultancy for the League of Ireland Premier Clubs Alliance, advising clubs on patterns in competitive balance, attendance demand and volunteerism in the League of Ireland Premier Division.
  • Mutiliple engagements with UCC’s Skellig CRI Centre for Research & Innovation in Caherciveen, Co. Kerry.
  • Multiple presentations at the Cork Discovers European Researchers Night.

CSEL intends to build on this positive community impact in the years ahead and grow the unit's social contribution. This will involve contuining to showcase our research through a range of public iniatives and events.

In February 2020, CSEL carried out an inaugural GAA research event at UCC’s Skellig CRI Centre for Research & Innovation in Caherciveen, Co. Kerry. This event was for a public audience, where researchers showcased research in GAA to a large group of attendees.
