CUBS Hosts 38th Irish Accounting & Finance Association Annual Conference

UCC hosted the 38th Irish Accounting & Finance Association Annual Conference, bringing together academics and practitioners from around the world to share research across accounting, finance and taxation.

The 38th Irish Accounting & Finance Association Annual Conference and Doctoral Colloquium was hosted at University College Cork (UCC) from the 10th to 12th June 2026.

Conference Chair: Dr Margaret Healy, Department of Accounting & Finance, UCC

Conference keynote: Prof David Bedford (University of Technology, Sydney, Australia).  An internationally recognised researcher in management accounting and control, with expertise in performance measurement, strategic management control systems, innovation and organisational sustainability, David’s presentation considered sustainability as a management control problem. 

Plenary-from-Practice: Mr Tony Murphy, President of the European Court of Auditors. Tony’s presentation outlined the work of the European Court of Auditors (ECA), where the ECA fits in the EU framework and the challenges the EU faces, as well as considering specific examples of recent work (e.g. around rising EU debt and new EU priorities like security and defence, enlargement, competitiveness, and the new EU MFF (Multiannual Financial Framework). 

In addition:

  • 66 academic papers were presented, covering topics as diverse as EDI, taxation, management control, sustainability reporting, green finance, carbon budgeting, accounting education.
  • Conference attendees representing 33 universities, as well as 3 profession accountancy bodies (Chartered Accountants Ireland, ACCA and CIMA)
  • Attendees from around the globe: Canada / US; as far east as Poland, north to Scotland and the Netherlands, and south to Australia and New Zealand.

 

 

The doctoral colloquium (Wed 10th June) provided students, at all stages of doctoral research, with an opportunity to present their work and receive feedback from academics in the sub-disciplines of accounting, finance and taxation.

European Accounting Association speaker at the doctoral colloquium: Dr Angela Pettinicchio (Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Italy)
